ABOUT US

The Italian Society of Aesthetics (SIE) was established in Palermo on October 29, 2001.

It brings together scholars who carry out their research in the field and subfields of aesthetics in Italy and aims at fostering investigations focused on aesthetic issues in order to promote them within and outside the discipline's (national) borders; at collaborating with the research and didactic activities carried out in Universities and to establish relationships with centers and institutions with similar aims in order develop common projects; to enhance and protect the professionalism of Italian aestheticians in all areas in which their activities are carried out.

Since its foundation, the SIE has organized its annual thematic conferences in various Italian cities (http://www.siestetica.it/convegni_list), hosting renowned international scholars of aesthetics (José Jimenéz, Hans-Dieter Bahr, Baldine Saint Girons, Stephen Halliwell, Jerrold Levinson, Winfried Menninghaus, Carolyn Korsmeyer, Wolfgang Welsch, Peter Lamarque) and prominent Italian scholars of cognate disciplines.

The SIE has also promoted events and projects such as the “SIE Summer School” (http://www.siestetica.it/summer_school), an international bibliography on aesthetics (http://www.siestetica.it/bibliografia), and the "International Lexicon of Aesthetics" (https://lexicon.mimesisjournals.com/), aimed at the enhancement and internationalization of the Italian aesthetic research, carried out by both consolidated and younger generations of scholars.
